Current age at the time of the story. It is a period characterized by strong monsters and a decline in human civilization.[2] In the past the eras were named after the strongest empire of that time. The Age of Darkness has no such empires.[3]
The Age of Darkness was started when a demon beast that had unlocked its divine wisdom, broke through to a realm beyond legend rank. When this happened it was felt by the top experts of the day. Three hundred of them attacked it, but all died in failure. In a rage the demon beast commanded its kind to attack humanity, wiping out most of human civilization within a few months. This is known as the demon beast riot and is what started the Age of Darkness.[4]
